T500 RS Racing Wheel Review

T500 RS
Racing Wheel Review

Thrustmaster T500 RS's force feedback is probably stronger than the feedback offered by any other steering wheel set you've ever tried. It is generated by a 65-Watts industrial motor with rotating at up to 3000 rpm and providing the 150mNm of torque. In spite of these real car-like characteristics and the .., well, you're also going to run out of adjectives shortly after trying it, as none is appropriate enough, we've agreed on awesome. So the aforementioned awesome feedback due to its large fans installed, does not cause any extra noise even after long hours of game play.

TH8 RS Shifter Review ? T500 RS Add-on

TH8 RS Shifter Review
a T500 RS Add-on

The Thrustmaster TH8 RS PlayStation 3/PC transmission is a separate seven speed + reverse transmission module, available on the electronic-game accessories market since November 2011. For this reason and due to its tempting design we were very eager unwrapping and setting it up.

Using the Thrustmaster TH8 RS PlayStation 3/PC gearbox in games is a great fun! Shifting is smooth, whereas the resistance is both software and hardware adjustable. Use the wrench included and tighten the bolts, in order to drive a muscle-car style on the NFS exotic races. Or ensure smoother shifting for your simulator games requiring much more shifting and split of an eye response, such as: classic rFactor computer racing simulator, online iRacing or any of the Dirt-series. The sequential shifter option is also very quick in its response and overall perfectly functional.

There's the 'Normal' mode you can chose when using the Ferrari F1 Add-On like a PS3 wheel or a PC-wheel - an overall of 17 well-responsive functions are available with the 13 action buttons and three D-pads. Selecting the 'Advanced' PC-compatible only mode, you will be provided with as much as 25 function buttons and a D-Pad that sums up to some 29 programmable functions. We are aware that these are just numbers, usually aimed to impress. Nevertheless, we do confirm that the Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On ultimate precision settings are possible.

Ferrari F430 Racing Wheel Review

Ferrari F430
Racing Wheel Review

As a matter of fact, there is at least one and it is proudly unveiled by Thrustmaster! Based on the growing realism of car racing games, closing laps and making hat tricks just like a real pilot without having to leave your home is now possible. All you need is some matching hardware, a racing wheel and last in sequence but not in importance, an adequate support to your body, that a game seat can provide you with. Brought to your attention by the highly-acclaimed US-leader in flight control and car-racing simulator equipment is the Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 steering wheel. It is officially licensed by Ferrari and it represents both a replica of the Ferrari F430's driving wheel and an affordable racing wheel set.

RGT Pro Clutch Force Feedback

RGT Pro Clutch Force Feedback
Racing Wheel Review

Unlike many other steering wheel sets we have reviewed, the Thrustmaster RGT FFB Clutch racing wheel is not heavier than expected, it is perhaps lighter. Similarly to its predecessor: the Thrustmaster Standard RGT FFB, there is a very heavy usage of plastic parts. For the price it is offered at, the plastic and rubber are ordinary. Nevertheless, the 9.5" wheel does feel very solid in your hands, and the thick rubber ensures a good grip. There is merely 270 degrees rotation available, then again - the standard one for the class.

Driving Force GT

Driving Force GT
Racing Wheel Review

The Driving Force GT performs perfectly in present-day games, as well. We have tried it on the entire Colin McRae Dirt-series, the Need for Speed: ProStreet (may seem irrelevant, but it was the current title at the time of DFGT's premiere), the Need for Speed: Shift 2, Grid (impatiently waiting for its coming sequel) and, of course, the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and GT 5. The force feedback is immediate and very powerful, though a bit noisy. You will definitely feel the difference between different track surfaces, especially in rallies. Just like in the real world you will also sense any curb-interaction and you will be pleasantly shaken any time you leave the boundaries of the track.

Logitech G27

Logitech G27
Racing Wheel Review

The Logitech G27 racing wheel's design resembles to a great extent the one of the G25. The Logitech Team have followed the 'if it's good, don't change it' saying making it. Despite of this, we do like the sleek and polished plastic, having leather-textured wheel circle, G27. It may not be that up-to-date like the aluminium 1080-degree rotation Thrustmaster T500 RS (especially if paired to the high-quality aluminium TH8 RS transmission set), still for its price it looks much better than any of the rivalry. There is an overall of six programmable buttons on the wheel itself and an entire row of LED's over the wheel hub. In games that support it, the latter can be used as a digital tachometer. The gear changing paddles are definitely more solid than those of the G25, as well as the gear shifting block.

Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Racing Wheel Review

To begin with, unlike the G27, the S wheel works with the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC that means it's the most accessible wheel tested. Eight buttons are large as well as easy to press, with four each side of the steering wheel, and, furthermore, they even glow according to which console the wheel is plugged into. Okay, those buttons aren't as tactile as we would have liked, but you can be sure they are sufficiently large and strong enough to push.
